Wayward Arts Presents Cadavre Exquis” Opening Reception
Also open throughout the Ravenswood ArtWalk, 9/14-15, 11-6pm.
Inspired by the 1920s parlor game of Exquisite Corpse, group show will include nearly 100 artworks by over 60 artists.
New to Exquisite Corpse? Imagine hanging out with a bunch of friends. Eyes dry and bulging of endless scrolling on adjacent screens, someone breaks out some (very analog) pencils and paper to play Exquisite Corpse.
No dead bodies required. Paper is folded into thirds. At the top, each person draws a head, or something resembling a head. The paper is folded back to hide the sketches and passed around. Then everyone draws a torso. Folds and passes the paper. Finally legs and feet.
Unfold and find a myriad of wacky pieces of art based on a 1920’s parlor game made famous by a group of French surrealists. The name derives from “le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau” or “the exquisite corpse will drink the new wine,” a word play based on the same concept.
Each artist in the show has submitted one or more canvasses representing a third of a body. Come opening, the art will be arranged in groups of three to create a menagerie of bizarre creatures. Collectors can mix and match pieces to create their own fantastical works of art, thus completing a unique, creative, collaboration between artist, curator and collector.
In addition to the opening reception on Friday evening, the show will be a designated stop during the Ravenswood ArtWalk. The gallery will have a bunch of art materials available, and along with live models (or create from your own imagination) we encourage grouping up with friend or soon to be friends to make your own Exquisite Corpse.
Come join us during this delightful weekend of play.

J. Emmett has three abstract pieces available for viewing and purchase at the Open Canvas show at Vibrant Cast Gallery in Lincoln Square, in Chicago, Il. Tiny Works

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
